The Reconstruction era was a period throughout American history in which lasted about 14 years, the main purpose of the Reconstruction was to help the South become part of the North again. President Lincoln’s plan was to make it easy for the Southern states to rejoin the Union stating that if 10% of the voters in a state supported the Union, then a state could be recommitted, and all he asked was for them to take an oath to the Union to be given a pardon (follow the rules). In order for the South to follow the rules in which the North follow by federal troops occupied much of the South in order to keep an eye on them.

This led to growth economically: with the South rejoining the North new governments were formed and even sending the first black person into office. This turned out to be very successful. Everyone started to look past the color of someone’s skin and this led to African Americans gaining full civil rights. A couple more things that are important to daily life today, a couple examples were that blacks were able to vote, and they also were able to have their own property. With the South’s cooperation the Union did a lot of help for the South, rebuilt roads, got farms running again, and built schools for poor and black children. President Lincoln had a plan to abolish slavery and put a stop to it, but with assassination of President Lincoln. There was someone who had to step up for the job and his name was Andrew Jackson, he did not think the same way as president Lincoln did. But in the long run the cooperation the South showed the North came back to help them and not hurt them.

By cooperating in Reconstruction, the Union states provided the means for readmitting them into the Union, and defining the means by which whites and blacks could live together in a non-slave society. This was beneficial for the African American society they were able to own their own property and farming ground, and not having to face irrelevant taxing on irrelevant items. With the South cooperating on only select items, they did not agree with everything President Lincoln was pushing for, so they fought back and tried to get some laws passed by congress. That’s when Black Codes were formed. Black Codes were codes that were formed by white supremacists who did not agree with President Lincoln. The Union didnt play the X-factor in the Reconstruction they did come together to help rebuild and reconstruct a little. But where they helped the most was modernizing the South. The South only relied on agriculture and with that not being the main X-factor in the North. Northerners helped the Southerners adapt to the resources that were provided to their specific area, and all of this happened because the South cooperated with the North and it helped them out in the long run.
