The concept of dance refers to the rhythmical movements that match the tempo of the music. In some cases, dance is a set of repeated steps, whereas in other cases, a person can move freely without following a specific scheme or order. In my understanding, dance is about creativity and self-expression. At the same time, a dance might reflect not only the emotions or feelings of a particular artist but the culture of an entire nation or ethnicity. For example, the traditional dances of every tribe and country on the earth are unique. At the same time, when modern types of dances do not belong to some culture, they are universal and global and more about the self-expression of a performer than of culture.

The general meaning of postcolonialism is a period that followed the end of Western hegemony. Therefore, the central idea of this notion in the context of art is the liberation from the standards imposed by the colonizers and the rethinking of history and culture. From my point of view, postcolonialism is about the rejection of traditions and breaking all the rules. It is about creating something new, strange, and bold that might be incomprehensible for the majority, but that reflects the mood and feeling of those people who made it.

To conclude, the combination of notions of dance and postcolonialism refers to the combination of old and new traditions, global and ethnic cultures, classical and traditional styles of dances. It is a way to establish a dialogue with other people and attempt to explain a choreographer or dancers unique problems, concerns, or views experiences. A postcolonial dance is more than rhythmic movements; it is communication, self-expression, and protest.
