The New Career Prospects

A few decades ago, genetics was mostly a science-related sphere of employment. However, according to Portman (2016), this is changing today. Nowadays, people with a degree in genetics can have solid career prospects in medicine and even agriculture (Genetics jobs in the United States, 2017).

Daily Activities of a Genetics Specialist

Depending on the occupied position, a genetic specialist could be dealing with a range of various tasks starting from DNA analysis in a lab to assigning a task to junior personnel. A typical day of a healthcare scientist starts and ends in a medical facilitys lab where he or she runs various tests, analyzes biological samples, and results of tests. Such a specialist often has a team of lab workers to whom he or she allocates tasks and instructs them on how to use lab equipment and interpret test results.

Traits and Behavior

If I occupied such a position, I would practice a plain and straightforward manner of speech with no sophisticated term abuse to make sure my junior team members understand their tasks completely. As a lab worker, I would need to be very self-organized to keep my workplace tidy and well-ordered. Working with lab equipment also requires patience and precision as a slight miscalculation may ruin a procedure.

Relationships with Subordinates

As a genetics professional and a manager of a team, I would need to be reserved but sociable to maintain good-natured relationships with colleagues. To be able to detect the roots of underperformance or interpersonal communication issues I would need to be extremely observant. I should never refuse a consult and always seek one if something is in or above my competence because the units performance should always be in the first place. My conduct should never change no matter whom I speak to because being generally nice and welcoming is universal in almost any daily interaction with colleagues and vital for keeping the connection.

Overall, genetics is a very important sphere of science. It can advance the treatment of many gene-related illnesses and disorders. However, a career in genetics requires a lot of personal skills and knowledge.
