Professionalism is a key skill required in individuals in the corporate field. In terms of my university studies, I hope to culture the core skills required of me to be a better professional and pharmacist in the future. Demonstrating and practicing these skills during my higher education will be difficult but rewarding for my future endeavors as a practicing pharmacist.

Professionalism has many different definitions that are influenced by the various interpretations, as it is directly affected by individual contexts. However, the crux of every definition is that professionalism is how we behave. In my university days, I hope to display characteristics following the code of behavior required of me, expressing values of strict individualism through choices in concordance with the body of knowledge I have gathered through experiences (my own and others’) and information sourced out to me. (Tipton, 2014/2014, pp. 104116)

Academic integrity refers to how I approach the submission of my assessments and work: which should always adhere to 5 qualities; responsibility, fairness, honesty, trust, and respect (Academic integrity, plagiarism and collusion, 2019). To gather a rapport of strong and pragmatic qualities expected in my career, I need to cultivate lifelong attributes upholding and pertaining to academic integrity. As a young individual, endeavouring for excellence, my ambitions lie in performing at a high standard. Personal and academic integrity are vital parts of initiating holistic student growth and an integral constituent of personal and social responsibility specifically in the medical profession, whereby our duty of care is underpinned by the moral code shaped by inclusion, integrity, and recognition (Wong, Lim, & Quinlan, 2016).

As behaviors become habits, I believe it is my responsibility to enforce and constantly encourage myself to attain rational, credible, and accountable character during my time at university so that can translate to the way I carry myself within the future workforce. For example, to avoid misconduct and abide by Monash’s guidelines towards academic integrity; I will ensure to give credit where it is due and not to take advantage of others’ thoughts, words, and ideas as my own for one-sided benefit. Scenarios whereby, I copy or replicate the works of others will be avoided by, maintaining my morals of always performing my best and producing work as honesty nurtures and strengthens ones integrity. Our development from academic integrity in the pursuit of knowledge needs to endorse sincerity as to transfer to our lives outside of the classroom or campus lifestyle and into our professional development.

Practicing the qualities of an exceptional professional within the healthcare system during my time studying at university will be crucial to developing and fostering my professionalism through my adherence to academic integrity that is underpinned by truth and honesty. I hope that as I progress through my studies within the Monash environment, I can learn from my educators and other key figures, how to behave and rationally act to provide the utmost best quality of care.
