Admiral William is a retired U.S. Navy Four-Star admiral and a former Chancellor of the University of Texas. He served as the ninth commander of the United States Special Operations Command from August 8, 2011, to August 28, 2014. After graduating high school in San Antonio, he attended the University of Texas, Austin on a track scholarship and joined Navy ROTC. Admiral William has a great deal of love for the University of Texas, even though he was born in North Carolina; some of his biggest early accomplishments were in Texas such as a track scholarship, NROTC, etc. and thats why he was chosen to speak at UT.

Students would be interested in hearing this speech because, during the speech, he said You are the class of 2014 the class that can affect the lives of 800 million people. As he explained in his speech he was talking about how the 2014 class can affect this generation and so on and so forth. What he did well in his speech is that he never looked away too long from the group; he would look down at his notes for a second but look right back up at the group. He was also very serious with what he said, and I think thats because he wants you to know that this is the real world and, this is how youre going to get through it. He said, If you want to change the world start off by making your bed. Telling the students if they want to do something big start with something small. He does a good job of keeping the audience interested by giving them real-life situations he was in. For example, he talks about a boat crew where no one was over five foot-five, but they would beat every SEAL boat crew to the beach. Lastly, he ends his speech with a call to action. His final words were to change the world.

Things he didnt do so great on was he didnt pause a lot so he was going a little faster than you would expect. Even though he rarely looked at his notes he still looked at them. He stuttered sometimes while he was speaking. Sometimes he would go off-topic to make a joke which if youre trying to keep a serious tone that is not good.

Overall he gave an amazing speech the audience was engaged. They were clapping and cheering once he was finished giving a statement. He spoke clearly and confidently with small stutters. He ended with a powerful call to action and gave examples supporting his ideas. Overall he left the class of 2014 at UT forever changed and has made them better people, better citizens, and better caretakers.
