Early intervention, prevention, and mental health promotion significantly affect an individuals well-being. However, it is no longer the responsibility of health professionals alone, especially during a crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Most adolescents were trapped at home and isolated from friends, resulting in an elevated level of mental health issues. However, parents and caregivers, teachers, and health and mental health professionals can utilize specific strategies to support adolescents during such situations. One of the most efficient methods is encouraging them to engage in positive activities. For instance, motivating teenagers to perform physical exercise regularly, writing caring letters to the already affected persons, and organizing charity events to collect and distribute needed medical supplies to affected communities. Parents, teachers, and caregivers can also encourage adolescents to share their feelings and ask questions. In return, the guardians must be good listeners and attentive to allow the young adults to be free and open about their issues.

Similarly, adolescents and emerging adults can adopt some strategies to help their personal growth and development to foster resilience and manage the negative impacts of a crisis. Firstly, they need to develop a positive attitude by being optimistic and embrace change. Such a method helps in reducing the levels of pain and distress. Secondly, adolescents need to develop a social network, no matter how small it can be. Loneliness is a significant factor that drives people into stress and depression. A social network can help provide social and moral support, making one feel loved and part of a group or community.

Regarding the parenting style, I have witnessed permissive parenting in several instances. This method involves parents who are very friendly to their children. The parents do not dictate or micromanage their children but allow them to do what they want as long as it is within the familial norms. Such parenting style enhances the relationship between parents and children, leading to a strong bond and reduced rebellion tendencies.
