The career I chose is a Pharmacist. I chose this career, because I have dreamed of becoming one since I was in the seventh grade. I didnt have my mind set on being a pharmacist, but I just kept it as an option. It wasnt until my senior year in high school, when I was in my pharmacy technician class, that I confirmed that I wanted to be a pharmacist when I grow up.

Pharmacists are highly trained medical professionals who fill prescriptions for patients and provide expert advice to those patients to make sure they are taking their medications appropriately in the right doses and in the correct combinations with other medications (Doyle). Pharmacists are responsible for filling prescriptions, counseling patients about new drugs they are taking, giving vaccinations to patients, consulting with doctors about prescription medications, working with insurance companies, maintaining and managing a retail pharmacy business. The pharmacy has a very fast paced work environment, and it is important that you can multitask and manage time properly.

In order to become a pharmacist, a doctorate of pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) is required in order to work. There are some Pharm.D. programs that require a bachelor, whereas others admit students with two years of undergraduate credits. Aspiring pharmacists need to have a strong foundation in chemistry, biology, and physics to do well and pass the PCAT, which is an admissions test to get into a pharmacy school. According to my Achieve WORKS report, I have skills like detail oriented, and communication skills. As a pharmacist, it is important to have good communication skills, analytical skills, be detail oriented, and be able to multitask.
